the guide
Joseph Clark was born in the north Georgia mountains and raised as an avid outdoorsman. His first fishing memories span back as far as he can remember but his interest for the sport developed while in middle school where he was introduced to fly fishing by a neighbor. Joseph first tested his skills with a fly rod in small lakes and ponds fishing mostly for largemouth bass and bluegill.
This eventually snowballed into a deep passion for fly fishing for all sorts of species across the southeast. After some time, he began working in the shop and guiding for Unicoi Outfitters in Helen, Georgia. It was around this time that Joseph also fell in love with the art of photography. He has since written a few articles for In The Loop Magazine where his photos were also published.

Later down the road Joseph found himself with the opportunity of a lifetime guiding at a remote fly-in lodge in Alaska. After his first season guiding in the 49th state he was also featured in Simms’ blog “The Plug” in an article titled “Self Guided”.

Several years ago Joseph was introduced to freshwater stripers by a friend at the shop. Ever since he has been completely obsessed with chasing these fish. Joseph spends every moment of his free time on the lake, tying flies and learning more about Lanier’s fishery. For him the wheels never stop turning.

Joseph fishes out of a Ranger 2510 Bay and a Hell’s Bay Boat Works Professional. Both boats are equipped with modern electronics to aid in finding fish. The Ranger offers a more accommodating fishing platform for two anglers and is more stable on rougher or more open water. On the other hand, the Hell’s Bay has a smaller footprint on the water allowing us to spook less fish and provides a great “run and gun” platform for one angler. Both boats certainly have their time and place. The choice will be at the discretion of the guide unless requested otherwise.
